The relation between science and religion is a subject of continued debate among philosophers and intellectuals over the centuries. While some believes there is no such significant relation between the two as they are utterly different domains, others subscribe to the view that both science and religion are interconnected, whereas the former discusses about the material world, the later tries understand both material and spiritual domain. Renowned educationist and author Mohammad Aslam Parvaiz's latest work 'The Scientific Muslim' tries to understand the teachings of Islam through lenses of science. As English mathematician and philosopher Alfred North Whitehead once said, 'Religion will not regain its old power until it can face change in the same spirit as does science'. On the same note this groundbreaking work provides an in depth analysis of some of the sacred verses of the Holy Quran to provide a guideline to the followers of islam and helps the general readers to break away from their stereotypical mindset about the islam and its various religious practices.
What I personally loved the most about this phenomenal work is the way the book unbiasedly addresses various wrong practices prevailing in Islam that prevents the people from having a scientific temperament. The singular goal of this work is to develop an attitude among the readers which involves the application of logic and the use of the methods of discussion, argument, inductive and deductive reasoning to search for the true meaning for themselves individually rather than repeating the age-old verses without having the right knowledge.
The work minutely discusses about each and every important aspects of Islamic culture, knowledge and practices with proper scientific evidence to provide an overall understanding to the readers. Issues ranging from the origin of epistemology in Islam to the latest developments in biotechnology and environmental activism, this work is a must read for everyone who wants to understand religion in the right way.
Overall, it was truly a fascinating experience going through the work. I highly recommend it and encourage everyone to read it. Its a book worth reading.
