Author Rajesh Singh's 'Baahubalis of Indian Politics' is an utterly intriguing tale of crime and politics in the world's largest democracy that will shake you to the core. This nonfictional work presents the real life story of 11 most high profile Indian politicians who have been tainted by allegations of serious criminality. This gripping account begins with the genesis of the word Baahubali and Mafia and how these people were used as catalysts by politicians to serve their purpose. It is a story of those outsiders, those unconstitutional elements who paved their way into our democracy with terror and muscle power. The work also succinctly presents the reasons why criminality thrives in the political areana.
It is a well-written and well-researched work that shows how these so called baahubalis have come from different socio-economic backgrounds. Some of these baahubalis like Suryadeo Singh of Dhanbad who came to politics with his influence and terror, while others like the tribal leader and founder of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Shibu Soren who emerged as a protector of the oppressed in Jharkhand and Mukhtar Ansari or Anant Singh, the chote Sarkar of Mokama who presented themselves father figures to the poor and the oppressed.
I have thoroughly enjoyed going through the eye-opening narrative and highly recommend it to everyone. You should definitely give this book a try if you are interested in the study of Indian politics or in the dark world of crime in India.I give this work 4 stars for the well-written and well-researched content and equally good overall presentation.
