'Don't search for solutions in useless pills and bogus diet plans, go back to your kitchen, all the solutions lies there'
This is what I have learned from acclaimed nutritionist cum author Lovneet Batra's latest work '50 Desi Super Drinks'. To tell the truth I have never come acorss any such books dedicated exclusively to Indigenous drinks. India is know for its indigenous science of medicine. From Sage Charaka who wrote Charaka Samhita to Rishi Patanjali who developed the sutras of Ayurveda, India is one such amazing land where in every household you will find people with the knowledge of 'Desi Remedies'. But with the course of time we have forgotten a lion's share of our traditional knowledge due to the 'colonial hangover' of always following the West as we have this peculiar notion of considering them as 'superior'. This inferiority complex has affected us to a great extent. But now we are gradually going back to our our traditional knowledge of medicinal herbs.
Lovneet Batra's current work is one such attempt to make the readers aware with their glorious past. Through this excellent work author Loveneet Batra has tried to break the myth that only the rich can afford a healthy lifestyle. The unique thing about this exciting work is its local and desi touch, which makes it a worthy read.
Besides, its a compact,well-written and well-researched work. All the information given in this book has been proven with credible sources. From Mashala Chai to Rasam, you name it and it's there in the book with everything you should know about that particular drink. Infact, I myself have learned a few things from this book. For instance, I have come to know about Kahwa which is the desi version of green tea. Then there is Ajwain Gud Kadha which is very useful in any kind of stomach issues. Loveneet Batra has shared all these knowledge with her jolly and conversational style and it feels truly amazing going through the work.
Overall, it was truly a fascinating experience. I highly recommend this book to everyone. Every Indian household should have a copy of this work. Its worth buying. I give this book full 5 stars for the content, writing style and overall presentation.
Happy Reading
