Renowned Indian scholar, diplomat, politician, educator, author and the Former Vice President of India, Mohammad Hamid Ansari sir is known for his unequivocal stand, his brave and unbiased views on various indian issues. He is a man of principles and throughout his career he has worked for establishing of the core values of the Indian constitution. There is no denying the fact that his endeavours for the upliftment of the minority communities of India as the chairman of the National Commission for Minorities has provided the marginalised a voice of their own, a voice they deserve as a citizen of India.
In his autobiographical work ' By Many A Happy Accident', Hamid Ansari sir has shared some untold moments from his personal life and career that will help the readers understand him as a person and his vision of India in a much better way. What makes this work particularly interesting and exceptional is the honesty and frankness in which he has addressed the current state of our country today. Through this work the readers will be able to understand how the core values of Indian constitution has been reinterpreted over the years by most of political parties in power to serve their purpose.
This exceptional autobiographical work provides an insiders view on various indian issues that needs to be addressed. He has shared some truly interesting incidents from his more than 15 years long career as a diplomat in countries like Iraq, Morocco, Saudi Arabia and Belgium, as an Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Afghanistan and Iran, as the High Commissioner to Australia and as a permanent representative of the United Nations.
But more importantly In this work he has discussed some really important issues. For instance, he has discussed about cultural nationalism and how it has made the people of india more intolerant, arrogant and insecure. He has also shared his insights on the current state of Indian education, the issues of gender equality and gender justice and how communal politics has destroyed the voices of the people from the minority communities. Among many other issues he has shared his thoughts on the upliftment of muslim women and how 'the dead weight of tradition, poverty, communal politics' has removed them from getting proper education and becoming economically independent.
I absolutely loved his recollections of the various lectures and speeches he gave around the world. The insights he has shared in this work truly makes this book a goldmine for those who wants to understand and analyse the current state of India. His eloquent writing style coupled with the beautiful use of urdu poems provides an amazing reading experience. The work also contains some rare photographs from Ansari sir's personal life and career.
Overall, it was a truly amazing experience going through this work. I give it 5/5 stars because thats the highest I can give. I highly recommend this work to everyone.
