Title: 26/11 Braveheart : My Encounter with Terrorists that Night
Author: Praveen Kumar Teotia
Publisher: Rupa Publication
Genre: Autobiography/ Memoir
Format: Paperback
Length: 198 pages
Rating: 5/5 stars

In his debut work, retired Marine Commando, Shaurya Chakra awardee, three times IRONMAN finisher and motivational speaker Praveen Kumar Teotia sir has shared his unforgettable memories of the fateful night of 26th November 2008 that shook Mumbai to its core and changed the course of his life forever. Ten members of the LeT, an extremist organisation,  carried out this well-coordinated massacre at the heart of Mumbai for four days. It was for the first time India witnessed such a well-planned attack at the heart of its financial capital which left the city and its people in a state of utter shock and mayhem. But soon the armed forces took control over the situation and neutralised it. MARCOS Praven Kumar Teotia sir was one of those brave soldiers who played a crucial role in the elimination of the terrorists by entering with his team into the famous Taj Mahal Hotel of Mumbai and it was due to his bravery and courageous attempt to tactically eliminate the terrorists that helped his team save the lives of 150 hostages. While most of us are aware of the 26/11 terror attack and the role played by the Indian armed forces but none of us actually know the lives of these brave soldiers post-26/11 attack. In this work you will find Teotia's sir's experiences and hardships before joining the Navy and after the attack of 26/11.

In this memoir he has shared in detail about those untold critical hours that shaped his perception about life and helped him see beyond the veil of heroism to indentify the loopholes in the system. The book will truly inspire you not because it is written by an Ex-Marine Commando but because in this work he has shared his innermost feeling with utmost loyalty and sincerity like an elder brother to give us the complete picture and understand what makes ordinary people extraordinary. Through sharing those moments of hope and despair, his deepest fears and insecuries, he has showed us if an ordinary boy like him from the remote village of Uttar Pradesh can achieve this much and do something for the nation, any other ordinary indian can do it too.

MACROS Praveen Teotia Sir was leading the team that conducted the operation inside TAJ hotel, but unfortunately during the operation they were secretly attacked by two terrorists in a dark hall, which left him seriously wounded. Infact, the wound was so severe that it punctured his right lung with serious blood loss. He was immediately shifted to the Navy hospital where his real fight with death begins. Those chilling narratives of his fight at the ICU with food, oxygen and urinal pipes inserted in his body will tear your heart with pain. But even death was not powerful enough to devour his courage. He soon trained himself to such an extent that soon he becomes one of the best ex-soldier athletes of India and finished the world famous triathlon 'IRONMAN' not once, or twice but three times.Truly his life should be an inspiration for all of us.

The thing I personally loved the most about this book is the way Teotia sir has narrated everything in a straightforward manner, whether it is the lack of resources ( faulty grenades, lack of guns etc), people's attitude towards armed forces or the way he was treated by his colleagues, seniors and the people in power, he has narrated everything in detail. He has also shared how the careless attitude on the part of the media in covering the attack, helped the terrorists coordinate the attack. It is a well-researched work and you will learn many interesting facts about different types of guns, military techniques and about their lives and training from this work.

Overall, it was truly an eye-opening experience for me. I give this memoir full 5 stars and highly recommend it to everyone.
