"Hema Malini is neither a goddess nor a saint but she is someone who is worshipped for both the qualities"- Sanjeev Kumar

Through this book biographer Ram Kamal Mukherjee has beautifully documented the unheard stories of "The Dream Girl" Hema Malini's journey both as an Abhinetri (actress) and Netri(Politician). It is a very well-researched book and the author has paid special attention to the small details so that the readers can get the complete picture of her magnetic personality. He personally interviewed Hema Malini's daughters to understand the depths of the Mother-Daughter relationship. His numerous interviews with the colleagues, directors, producers, friends and family members provides us multiple coloured glasses to observe and understand her personality.

Divided in 23 chapters the book uncovers Hema Malini's life as a child, her extreme penchant for dance, in the later years how she managed her dance and academics, her journey in the film industry and in politics. Apart from that the book also shades light on the areas undiscussed. For instance, There is a chapter in the book which discusses her experiments with religion where she has shared her experiences with Guru Maa Indira Devi and how she was introduced to yoga. She also discussed about her association with ISKCON.

In every artist's life the Guru played a major role and she is no exception. Hema Malini discusses how she learned various Indian classical dance forms from renowned Gurus like Guru Kittapa Pillai(Bharatnatyam), Guru Vempatti Chinna Satyam(Kuchipudi) and Guru Natanam GopalKrishnan(Mohiniattam). She also learned Carnatic music and Abhinaya from legendary Gauri Amma.

Ram Kamal Mukherjee's excellent writing style and narration binds all these episodes together in an amazingly beautiful way.The cover image by Vickky Idnaani is exquisite.

The Forward written by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Afterward by Director Ramesh Sippy is equally interesting to go through.

Overall, it was an interesting read.I give this book 4 stars for the amazing writing style, excellent narration, well-researched content and beautiful presentation.

Happy Reading
