Title: Uncle Pai
Author: Rajessh M Iyer
Publisher: Fingerprint Publishing
Rating: 5/5 stars

'The childhood passion for storytelling and comics led a man to establish one of the most successful publication of Indian Comics'

When the opening lines of a biography starts with the sentence " If only the colourful characters on paper had the power to act,...they would have at least screamed. Perhaps they did. Alas! No one heard them." you know there are surprises waiting for you. 'Uncle Pai' is a powerful, un-put-down-able account of renowned storyteller, writer and editor Anant Pai's venture into the world of comics and his magical creations that mesmerised millions of readers across India.

Born in Karkala, Karnataka, Anant Pai came to Bombay at the tender age of twelve. His childhood penchant for Harikatha (traditional storytelling) and Yakshagana (traditional theatre from Karnataka which takes themes from epics) created in him a strong urge to present the rich Indian cultural heritage to the future generation of india. His brief but exciting tenure with Times of India taught him important lessons about marketing strategies which play a crucial role in the success and failure of any business endeavor. These valuable lessons helped him a lot to establish two iconic storytelling brands 'Amar Chitra Katha' Comics and 'Tinkle Magazine', with millions of followers across india. He was also a polyglot and an extensive reader which actually helped him to choose the best stories from different regional literatures for Amar Chitra Katha comics and Tinkle Magazine. His journey through success and failure, praise and criticism is an inspiration for us.

Author Rajessh M. Iyer has truly done a commendable job in presenting the story with utmost care and attention. Through the mastery of his writing style and narration, he has beautifully mixed his creative imagination with the interesting facts from Uncle Pai's life and career to provide an ultimate reading experience. The work also contains some rare photographs which heightens the excitement even more.

Throughout 'Uncle Pai' is an inspiration- a loveable, valiant pioneer whose story, resiliance and dedication had me enthralled from start to finish. I give it full 5 stars and highly recommend it.

Happy Reading
