I particularly love those novels which contains a prologue and an epilogue. So first, lets talk about the cover page (designed by author Ajitabha Bose) which is extremely beautiful and perfectly represents the theme of the novel.
The novel also contains a map of Illavarti at the back and there is a brief description of the tribes which is very helpful. The plot does not follow the traditional stories of Mahabharara and it is an interpretation of the author. He has taken ideas for his characters from different texts and he has mentioned that at the beginning of the story, which is very helpful.
Now lets talk about the plot
The novel starts with Kashyapuri being attacked by Indra on the pretext of his fear that King Hiranya is planning to betray him by visiting the Paatal to convince the council to provide him more soldiers, though in reality, King Hiranya went there to scatter the ashes of his dead brother over the holy river. To realize the fact that the destruction of her Kingdom is inevitable, Kayadhu give Narada the responsibility to protect her son Prahlad and decides to confront Indra. After a short dialogue Indra kills her and thats how the novel begins.
The main story starts 14 years later. Narasimha has left the Simha Army of Indra and now living a life of isolation. While in the army they were provided with a particular type of herb which has increased their power exceedingly. Narasimha can hear and smell objects and humans from a great distance without actually seeing them. When he was in the army he came to know about something that shocked him to his core and thats why he left the army. But now Indra wants him back in the army to defeat Andhaka.
Will Naramsimha be able to defeat Andhaka?
What will happen when King Hiranya discover the fact that Indra has killed his beloved wife?
What will happen to the infant Prahlad ? To get all the answers grab your copy today.
Pros-
The novel is well written and well researched. The plot has some pretty exciting twists and turns with some jaw- dropping revelations which is utterly enjoyable to read. The scenes of Wars have been portrayed in a realistic manner. Whether its Prahlad's mental agony or Narasimha's inner turmoil, everything is portrayed in an amazingly beautiful manner. The character construction is brilliant.
Cons-
The female characters are not given any important role in the plot.
Overall it was an entertaining read. I give this novel 4 stars and recommend it to everyone.
Happy Reading
