Renowned author, economist, educationist and the respected member of Rajya Sabha, Dr. Narendra Jadhav is one of the most celebrated public figures of India who is known for his exceptional contribution in the fields of Education, economics and English, Hindi and Marathi Literature. His cuurent work 'Future of the Indian Education System ' provides a comprehensive understanding of the latest National Education Policy released by the MHRD ( Now Ministry of Education) on July 29th this year. This academic study provides an in-depth analysis of the NEP 2020 by focusing on each an every aspects from the genesis and evolution of National Policy on Education to the possibilities it holds for the near future.

To help the readers understand each and every aspect properly, this work has been devided into four parts. The introduction part provides a thumbnail view of the major goals set by the United Nations and how the Indian deducationists structured the National Policy on Education 1968, 86 and then the revised POA 1992, keeping in mind the goals of quality education, reorientation of curriculum, education for sustainable development and technical and vocational education.

The thing I absolutely loved about this work is its uniformity of structure. While talking about the National Education Policy, the author has touched all the important post-independence committees and commissions starting from the Radhakrishnan commission of 1948 to the Kasturirangan Committee of 2017 which submitted the Draft NEP 2019. The work then focuses on the contemporary challenges and opportunities in the Education as well as skill development sector to give the readers a base and background to understand the importance of NEP 2020 in a much better way.

Part One of this book provides an understanding of the current development in the Indian Education system and how much we have attained so far in the area of Skill development. To understand the overall development in the Indian Education System the author has divided it into various subtopics such as

Elementary Education :
It deals with the implementation of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to improve the status of elementary education in India and its impact on the gross and net enrollment ratios and dropout rates.

Secondary Education:
It talks about the gross and net enrollment ratios, school retention and dropout rates as well as the Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan and Model school scheme implemented by the Goverment to improve the quality and efficiency of Secondary Education.

Vocational Education:
It sheds light on the vocationalisation of Secondary Education by the Goverment to provide employment opportunities to the learnes. It also disucusses about the centrally sponsored schemes initiated in 1988, the development of National Vocational Education Qualification Framework (NVEQF) by the MHRD and the National Vocational Qualification Framework (NVQF) by Ministry of Labour as well as the Scheme of Jan Shikshan Sansthan to improve the vocational skills and the quality of life of neo-literates.

Tertiary Education:
It provides an overall idea about the status of Higher Education and Technical Education in India with appropriate data.

Recent developments and policy issues provides an overall idea about the recent developments and policies taken by the goverment to improve school education and higher education. The Book also sheds light on the issues of gender, social and regional inequities in school and higher education.

Part Two provides an comprehensive overview of the NEP 2019 by dividing the analysis into sub-topics such as Early Childhood Care and Education, School Education, Higher Education, Skill Development, Vocational and Adult Education, Teacher Education, Equitable and Inclusive Education, Education and Technology and Financing Education. Besides, It also discusses about the reforms in the education system in relation to National Research Foundation (NRF) and Rashtriya Shiksha Aayog ( RSA).

Part Three of this book provides an excutive summary of the Draft NEP 2019 and a comprehensive, critical and constructive appraisal of the New Education Policy in all the major aspects of ECCE, School Education, Higher Education, Teacher Education, Inclusive Education and Financing Education.

Part four gives an idea about the future of Indian Education by providing a timeline for policy action programme from the year 2020 to 2035. A postscript has been added to provide a comparison between the draft NEP 2019 and the NEP 2020 to discuss about the modifications as well as to give suggestions for improvement.

As a masters student of RIE (NCERT) Bhopal, I was looking for a book that can help me understand the National Education Policy 2020 in a comprehensive manner and and this book has helped me a lot. Infact, I have cited a few points from this work in my research articles on blended learning and on the education of transgender learners.

You should definitely give this book a try because-

1. It provides an indept analysis of everything you need to know about the NEP 2020.

2. The language of the book is very simple. The author has tried to explain everything in the layman's language so that anyone with little or no privious knowledge can understand the points too.

3. It not only discusses about the NEP 2020 but also about the Indian Education system as a whole. So if you are looking for a book in which you will find everything about the past, present and future of the Indian education  system , this is the book for you.

I give this work full 5 stars and highly recommend it.
