Author Geeta Menon's maiden work of fiction "What Mina Did" narrates the trajectories in the life of the protagonist Mina and raises some really important questions regarding the issues of mental health, identity crisis and conservative mentality. Mina, a girl in her early twenties, moved to US from Bangalore to start a new life with her husband Vijay but all her dreams of a happy and peaceful life shattered into pieces, when she witness  a ghastly murder in front of her eyes by the robbers. The tragic incident left a deep impression on her mind and when five years later she decides to return to India to sell her ancestral property, those past memories comes back to haunt her.

Then there is Mina's best friend Neelu who supported her during her traumatic phase, informs Mina about her romantic relationship with an African-American boy John and asks for her support to convince her family as in India Neelu's parents don't subscribe to the idea that their "high caste" daughter want to marry a "Black" Negro.

Will Mina be able to convince her parents?

Will she ever be able to left her past behind and live a happy life again??

The cover image of a lady looking through the window is absolutely brilliant. It perfectly represents the essence of the work and arrests our attention immediately. The title of the novel is apt and justified.

The thing I liked the most about this book is its presentation.I loved the way the author has addressed the issue of mental trauma through the pathetic condition of the protagonist and provides us an opportunity peep into the dark realms of her psyche to actually feel her pain.

The writing style is very lucid and eloquent and the story runs in medium pace. In one hand we observe the beautiful relationship of Mina with her mother and on the other hand there is the relationship between Neelu and her parents which lacks the warmth and integrity of the familial bond.

It is a must read for everyone. I have truly enjoyed going though the novel and recommend everyone to read it atleast once.

I give this novel 4.1 stars for the amazing storyline, eloquent writing style and superb presentation.
Happy Reading
