Book Review # 8
Title- Two Girls in Love
Author- Ankita Singh
Genre- Poetry, #lgbtq
Edition- Kindle
Rating- 3/5

Introduction-

In India, LGBT rights were once considered as taboo. Though the Supreme Court of India has decriminalized Section 377 of the IPC, but still the mentality of the general public hasnot changed a bit.It is still considers a disease which can be cured through proper medication.Reports of torture, attacks and honour killing of the members of LGBT community is not uncommon in India. Rates are even higher in rural areas where they are forced to marry a person from the opposite sex. What is more shocking is the public's callous attitude towards such incidents.
To come out and accept one's own identity is very hard for them and its even harder for women because they are "doubly marginalized", both as a women and as a transgender.

About the Book-

In "Two Girls in Love" poetess Ankita Singh has touched some problems faced by members of the LGBT community. The book starts with a line from Jen Wilde's book "Queens of Geek" " We are the brave ones". The poetess has beautifully described the inner turmoil of the LGBT people through a young lesbian girl. The girl dont have a name which gives it an universal tone. The poems are written in a form of a diary entry with each poem represents a particular day and event in the protagonist's life.It starts on 7th Sept, a day after the historical judgement of the SC. The poems showcases the fear and anxiety of a young girl of being treated differently.Maybe his parents won't accepts her.Still she gathers courage and tells her mom who rejects her idea without giving it a second thought and warns her not to tell her dad.

Will she be able to declare her own identity and come out of the closet?

Conclusion-

Though it is a relatively short book, it leaves deep marks on the reader's heart and forces them to contemplate and question their own self-made ageold ideals.
